Have you been talking with various landscape designers about an upcoming new garden project? Are you at the point of trying to decide which one you should proceed with? Would you like to be able to make your decision with clarity and certainty?
If we are one of the landscape designers you are considering for your project, can we offer you 7 reasons why we think you should choose us?
Normally we try to keep our blog articles as unbiased as possible. But in this case, we will put forward what we believe is a very convincing case for why you will not regret choosing Whyte Gardens for your next project.
Please take a minute to read this. We promise it will be worth your while.
Extensive experience over the past 30+ years
The team at Whyte Gardens have extensive experience in landscape design, landscape architecture and landscaping. Over the past 30-plus years we have designed and constructed more than 550 gardens of every kind imaginable for clients all over Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.
We are experienced at working with sites that are easy to access. As well as challenging, steep or difficult-to-access sites.
We are experienced at creating gardens with pools and without them - both fibreglass and concrete.
We have created gardens that are just overflowing with plants and nature - and those that have none at all.
We have created gardens for families. Gardens for couples. Gardens for singles. Gardens for people whose only family members all have four legs.
Front gardens. Rear gardens. Side gardens. And complete gardens.
Completely new gardens for knockdown/rebuilds or brand-new homes. Garden renovations and makeovers. And even total garden transformations.
Gardens in the city. Gardens in the country. Gardens on the Peninsula.
We have also worked with every type of client imaginable: from the person who is obsessed with detail and wants to know at every single stage of the project exactly what’s happening on a day-to-day basis; to the person who is happy to just leave us to get on with it.
And, of course, everyone in between.
There is almost no project you could approach us with that would not be similar to something we’ve created before. So, you would benefit from the extensive experience we can draw on for your project.
But if you did bring us something completely new, that we have never done before, we would love it. Because we relish the opportunity to push our limits, expand our boundaries and take on new challenges.
We never want to remain static or become so arrogant that we think we know it all. Even after 30 years, we want to keep growing, learning and discovering new things.
We never want to rest on our laurels. We take on every project with the view that it will be a new opportunity to prove our worth.
Just because we’ve done a wonderful job for others, means nothing to you, until we have also done it for you too.
We would love the opportunity to work with you.
Fully integrated landscape design and construction services
We are a fully integrated landscape design and construction company. This has a number of benefits for you.
First, it means that we can not only design your dream garden, we can construct it for you as well.
This makes for a seamless process for you. Your journey from concept to completion is so much easier because you only have to deal with one company all the way through your project.
Your other alternative is to first hire a landscape designer to design your garden. Then you have to find and engage a separate landscaping company to build it.
Not only is this extra work for you, but it often means you end up being the one who has to manage the process of liaising between them. (Forcing you into a quasi-project manager role, which you may not want to undertake.)
Using a fully integrated company like ours means that things are less likely to get missed or misunderstood because the job has been handed from one company to another. And you won’t ever get caught between two companies each blaming the other if something goes off the rails.
Our team work very closely together and liaise with each other very well. And if any unexpected issues crop up on site (which do tend to happen on almost every job) we can quickly get our designer to resolve the issue, do some quick redesign work and get the project back underway again, without excessive delays.
If you engage a separate landscape designer and landscaper, it can be a real challenge to get the original garden designer to quickly update the design if they are busy on other projects and have effectively moved on from your design. This can lead to costly delays on site while waiting for the designer to make the revisions.
With us, however, having the designer who originally conceived your garden available and working with us all day, every day, means you have ready access to them throughout the project to ensure design changes can easily be made. Additionally we can often make those changes at no additional cost to you because we are all part of the one team.
We try to be fair and reasonable in our dealings and charging petty fees for small design changes is just not in our nature.
High-quality garden designs
We are very proud of the quality of our garden designs. Most of our designs, as you can tell by looking at our portfolio, are for high-end clients with very good taste.
Our designers strive to create the most beautiful garden they can for you, in whatever style you wish. We think our designs speak for themselves, as does the quality of our work.

Constant communication when you need it most
At Whyte Gardens, we are slightly obsessive about communication - in a good way.
Simply put, we love to keep you well-informed about your project at every stage.
Because we know there is nothing more frustrating as a client than being left in the dark and not knowing what is going on.
You will find from the first moment you make contact with us that we communicate regularly and often.
From booking your initial design consultation to reviewing your site and putting forward a design concept, you will get regular and timely communications.
In the preliminary stages, while we are waiting for council permits or other matters, we also strive to keep you regularly updated on where things stand with your project.
Once construction commences, you have both a dedicated construction manager and project coordinator who will liaise with you constantly throughout the build. Keeping you informed of what stage will happen next, how it might affect or impact you, etc
We also keep you informed on what to expect on a day-to-day basis so you can continue to plan your daily life around the landscaping project.
And of course, our founder Andrew keeps a very close eye on every project, acting as an overall super manager of all projects.
Should any cost variations occur throughout the project, we also keep you advised with variations and send them through in writing so there are no surprises.
We believe constant, high-quality communication is the key to ensuring a smooth-running project from beginning to end.
Authenticity for you, and us
The Whyte Gardens ethos can be summed up in one word - authenticity. We aim to be authentic in how we deal with you. How we design your garden. How we communicate with you. How we price things. How we advise you.
But ultimately, we want to design a garden for you that is authentic to who you are, how you live your life and what your aspirations, desires and dreams are.
You, your family and friends, are unlike anyone else. We want to ensure you end up with a garden that is uniquely yours.
We never take a cookie-cutter approach to design. We listen and understand who you are and what’s important to you in your life so your garden will be true to you.
Part of us being authentic to ourselves is also about us being willing to own our mistakes. Despite our extensive experience in this game, we do still make errors. We’re only human. But importantly we always take responsibility for them. If it is our mistake, you will find us more than willing to take action to correct it and make up any damage done.
It’s been part of our philosophy for over 30 years.
Guidance along your journey
Creating a new garden is quite a journey. It starts as a dream and it should end with a dream come true.
But sometimes there can be many challenges along the way. One of the key issues, especially if you are new to landscaping, is ensuring you understand enough about each stage to make fully informed choices and decisions.
This is why we have created our Insights Library – an extensive collection of articles that cover every stage of your landscaping journey, from concept to construction. You can access it at any time during your project by clicking here.
It was created with one goal in mind – to give you the information you need to know about the widest possible range of subjects in landscaping – so that you can become better informed about key landscaping issues and therefore make the right decision when called upon.
You will find articles about what to do before you even engage a landscape designer, why you even need one and when you definitely need one.
We tackle some of the tricky subjects, like council permits, building over easements, heritage overlays, etc
We help you understand budgets, installing a pool, choosing the right paving and answer all your questions on decking.
We even advise you on what you might not be being told by others and how that might affect your project.
We are so willing to share our knowledge and our experience with you, for one purpose only – to help you make the best-informed decisions you can.
Less arrogance. More listening
Many landscape designers and landscape architects have a certain design “chic”. A style they like to design in. Often they try to push all their clients into having a garden designed "their" way.
They want your garden to be another one they can feature on their website.
Some landscapers also want to build gardens “their way”. They will push you into modifying the design to suit how they want to build it, using materials they prefer to work with because they are easier or cheaper or they can get a good deal on them.
In both cases, you can end up feeling disappointed in your garden because it wasn’t really what you wanted originally. You might feel like you were forced to compromise with your own personal integrity throughout your journey. And your garden will be a constant reminder of all the compromises you had to make.
At Whyte Gardens, we strive very hard to avoid this approach. We believe the secret to our long-term success is our willingness to listen to you.
Your garden is about you, not us. Your ideas. Your dreams. Your lifestyle. Your aspirations.
You are the ones who will live in it and enjoy it.
Because in the end, the person we want to be the happiest with your garden is not us, it’s you!
Thank you for taking the time to read this article.
We hope it has resonated with you.
And we hope it has helped you make a positive decision.
If it’s not us, then we will be sad to miss out on the chance to prove our worth to you. But whoever you choose, we hope you end up with the garden you’ve always dreamed of. And that it provides many, many years of joy to you and everyone you care about in your life.
