Designing with a Pool in mind

Landscaping does NOT go around a pool. A pool IS part of the landscaping. When we are designing your garden, we take into account the whole garden and how you will use it across all the seasons.

The wrong way to go about it

Builders aren’t designers. A pool builder may suggest a pool that isn’t in harmony with the garden. The functionality of the garden can be hindered by the wrong pool installation.

You listen to a pool builder and may unknowingly think the advice is right. Why wouldn’t you? They do this all the time.

But they are not garden designers. A professional designer will ask you how you want to spend time both in and out of the pool zone. They will ask how you want to enjoy the two-thirds of the year you are not using the pool.

Lets read on, how it should be done…

The right approach

The first step is discussing with your landscape designer all the functionality you wish to include in the space.

What are your entertainment needs outside the pool zone? How many lounge chairs do you want around the pool, and do you want any shade?

If you have kids, what do they like to do outside the pool zone?

All these questions and more allow an understanding that creates the design.

This can cause the pool to be moved to a different location, change shape, or change levels.

Frequently asked questions

Our projects are for those with discerning taste and included in this are courtyards, new-build homes with a blank canvas, gardens that need rejuvenation and also acreage projects that require a very different approach to suburb ones.

You can see examples of our work here: Portfolio of Work

Providing the design is detailed sufficiently, we can provide a quotation to build it. We begin by sending you an estimate that will be very close to the final cost, just to ensure the budget is right.

As most designers do not provide costing, when we do cost it, there is sometimes a shock as the budget required. This is why we start wit a more high-level costing first before investing in contacting all the suppliers.

We design anywhere but having our base in Hastings, we do landscaping all across the Mornington Peninsula and all the way up to the city. We have been landscaping in the Brighton to Balwyn belt for decades as you can see in our Portfolio.

Someone needs to be in charge of running the whole space and that’s where we excel. Your project may involve a pool company, outdoor kitchen installer, blinds being installed, or a louvre pergola. You may include a basketball court or simply some sheds. All of this was part of the design we created and now we liaise with all stakeholders to coordinate them.

You read more about this here:  Who’s responsible for managing contractors in a landscaping project?

As we only landscape from a design, we work on projects ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.

Our design and landscaping tend to be high-end work, meaning quality-driven, where detail matters. This tends to be more costly.

We work with either your preferred pool builder or one we suggest to you. We do not build pools but rather liaise with them in tandem.

Once the design is complete, we can provide a staged approach. This sometimes means landscaping the rear first or some combination.

You can read more about this here: Is it more economical to do landscaping work in stages?

Yes.

This is an important point, so we recommend reading the following article: What type of landscaper will I need for my new garden project?

We handle all aspects. From engineering, Build Over Easement permit, Planning Permit, Building Permits and more…
