Choosing the Right Garden Designer and Landscaper

Are you searching for the right garden designer and landscaper for your new project?
Are you wondering how to determine who is truly the right fit?
Are you concerned that your individual needs and aspirations may not be fully understood or realised?

Selecting the right team to create the beautiful garden you’ve been dreaming of is a significant decision.

After decades of designing and building exceptional gardens, we understand how important it is that you feel completely comfortable with who you choose. Landscaping is often a substantial investment — one you want to get right from the beginning.

We’ve written this to help you decide whether Whyte Gardens is the right choice for you. Naturally, we hope you conclude that we are. However, regardless of your decision, we trust this will help guide you further along your journey toward your ideal garden.

Who We Are

Whyte Gardens has been part of the landscape industry for more than three decades, creating over 550 gardens during that time.

Today, our team includes:

  • Two Landscape Architects
  • One Horticultural Designer
  • A dedicated landscaping crew of five
  • An Administration Manager
  • A Marketing Manager

Together, we operate as a coordinated and collaborative team — ensuring that design, construction, communication and project management remain aligned throughout the entire journey.

But beyond titles and roles, we are a group of professionals who care deeply about helping our clients realise their ideal gardens.

We specialise in translating vision into reality.

We genuinely enjoy working with clients to understand what their garden should bring to their lives, whether that’s connection, relaxation, entertainment or sanctuary.

Through collaboration and dialogue, we refine ideas into a clear concept design — a roadmap that guides us together toward a finished garden that may have previously existed only as glimpses in your imagination.

Our experience has taught us that while the journey can present challenges, it is always worthwhile when approached with clarity, preparation and expertise.

What We Do

We design gardens. We build gardens. But what we truly offer goes beyond that.

We view design as a journey of discovery, helping you articulate desires that may have existed only as vague impressions. Through exploration and refinement, we shape those ideas into cohesive, achievable plans.

We will also challenge you, respectfully, to consider possibilities that may elevate your vision further.

Because we manage both design and construction, you work with one integrated team throughout the entire process. We handle engineering, permits and documentation and coordinate with pool companies, outdoor kitchen installers and other specialists.

Our aim is to remove stress and simplify communication.

Ultimately, we design and build gardens that enhance enjoyment, improve wellbeing and foster meaningful connections to family, friends and nature.

What It’s Like to Work With Us

If we had to summarise our focus, it would be this: confidence and peace of mind.

At every stage, we want you to feel supported by professionals who are accountable, communicative and committed to delivering an exceptional outcome.

We do not believe in a “tick-box” approach:

Pool installed — tick
Outdoor kitchen added — tick
Garden planted — tick

For us, it’s not about checking items off a list. It’s about creating a garden with character and emotional resonance - a space that inspires and uplifts rather than simply satisfying requirements.

The real measure of success isn’t completion, it’s transformation.

One client shared with us a few months after finishing their garden:

“My husband wasn’t particularly involved in the design process, but once the garden was complete, he immediately bought a comfortable chair and now regularly sits outside reading with the dog. He loves it.”

Stories like this reinforce why we do what we do.

What About Costs?

Cost is an important part of the conversation and one we approach transparently.

Design and construction costs vary depending on scope, inclusions, site conditions and features such as pools, decks, pergolas or outdoor kitchens.

We are a premium service and our fees reflect the time, care and expertise invested in creating considered, enduring outcomes.

A typical design may involve approximately 50 hours of work to reach Master Plan stage. While it would be possible to reduce that time and fee, doing so would compromise the depth and quality of the result.

That said, we are pragmatic and careful. We respect that this is your investment and allocate resources thoughtfully to where they will have the greatest impact.

If you are seeking the lowest-cost option, we may not be the right fit. If you are seeking value, depth and longevity, we may be.

Timeframes

The design process typically spans several weeks, allowing time for site visits, research, development, discussion and refinement.

Engineering approvals, permits and external consultations can extend timelines further, particularly where council processes are involved.

Once construction begins, projects may take two to three months or longer depending on complexity.

While some variables are beyond our control, we work diligently to maintain clarity and momentum throughout.

Our Key Role

Beyond design and construction, we see ourselves as guides throughout the journey.

Like experienced Sherpas guiding climbers toward a summit, we bring foresight, experience and reassurance, helping you avoid pitfalls while progressing confidently toward your goal.

Having created over 550 gardens, we understand the risks, the unknowns and the pathways that lead to success.

We manage the process, coordinate specialists, source quality materials and oversee every stage, allowing you to focus on the excitement of transformation rather than the stress of logistics.

Authenticity

If there is one word that defines us, it is authenticity.

By that, we mean being true to our values, transparent in communication and committed to creating gardens that genuinely reflect who you are.

We do not impose a style. We collaborate.

Your garden should feel like yours — not ours.

Through dialogue and partnership, we translate ideas into meaningful spaces designed to be cherished for years to come.
